SPEAK Tests

Registration for SPEAK Tests closes one week before the test. All tests are at 5 p.m. online via Zoom.

Spring/Summer 2025 SPEAK Test Dates:

  • Tuesday, February 24, 2026
  • Wednesday, April 29, 2026
  • Wednesday, July 15, 2026
  • Tuesday, July 28, 2026
  • Thursday, August 6, 2026

The cost of the UF SPEAK test is $100.

Requirements for international teaching assistants (ITAs)

Florida law requires the University of Florida to ensure all teaching faculty, including international teaching assistants (ITAs), are proficient in English.

The three tests approved for oral proficiency are the TOEFL iBT (Speaking), the IELTS Academic (Speaking), and the UF SPEAK Test. For more details, click here.

Scholarly Writing

Spring 2026 Scholarly Writing

The Spring A 2026 Scholarly Writing course will start Monday, January 26 and end Friday, March 6.

This online-only course will meet synchronously from 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Tuesdays. An additional 1.5 hours of instruction will be provided asynchronously with one-on-one feedback from the instructor.

The last day to register for the course is Friday, January 16. The last day to drop the course is February 2.

Scholarly Writing is designed for international graduate students and visiting scholars who wish to improve their written academic English skills. The course is non-credit and lasts six weeks. The cost of a six-week section is $350. This course is not eligible for a tuition waiver.

English for Academics and Professionals

English Interaction Skills

The English for Academics and Professionals course modules cover English interaction skills, including pronunciation, conversation, and public speaking.

This non-credit, in-person course is designed for intermediate to advanced English language learners. It provides an opportunity for UF graduate students, visiting scholars, faculty, and staff to improve their spoken English skills.

The course meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Room 210 Matherly Hall.

The last day to register for the Spring 2026 course is Tuesday, January 13.
