Gulf Research Science Policy Fellowship!

Apply Now · Deadline is February 26, 2026

Date sent: January 22, 2026

The National Academies’ Gulf Research Program is now accepting applications for its Science Policy Fellowship, which offers early-career scientists and engineers opportunity to hone skills by applying them in real-world policy settings that support Gulf Coast communities and ecosystems.

Fellows who have completed an MA, MS, or MPH/MSPH degree or who are currently enrolled in a doctoral program will receive an annual stipend of $63,800.

Fellows who have completed a PhD, ScD, MD, DrPH, or DVM degree will receive an annual stipend of $69,3000.

With the guidance of a mentor, fellows delve into policy development, evaluation, restoration planning, grants management, stakeholder outreach, and the like as they spend one year on the staff of federal, state, local, or non-governmental agencies in the Gulf Coast region.

This is an opportunity for you to learn what it takes to make scientific information not just useful but useable — while building expertise, sharing fresh perspective, and expanding networks through a host office across the Gulf Coast.

The deadline to apply is Thursday, February 26, 2026.
