Call for 2026-2027 Nominations: Madelyn Lockhart Dissertation Fellowship Deadline to apply to departments/colleges: November 20, 2026 College submissions to Graduate School due January 15, 2027 Date distributed: September 30, 2026 Distributed to: All Graduate Students, Deans, Associate Deans, School Directors, Department Chairs, Coordinators, and Staff Dear fellow Grad Gators and campus partners, The UF chapter of the Association for Academic Women (AAW) sponsors the Madelyn Lockhart Dissertation Fellowship to support a PhD candidate who is an outstanding researcher who has overcome challenges, helped others overcome them, or contributed to a larger sense of community on campus or more widely. UF AAW will award one fellowship up to $2,000 yearly to help to aid the dissertation phase of the doctoral degree. This award honors Dr. Madelyn Lockhart (1924-2015) — Dean of the UF Graduate School and Dean of International Studies (1985-1993), Associate Dean (1981-1985). and Assistant Dean (1973-1977 and 1979-1981). Dr. Lockhart aided graduate students in many ways, including by implementing his fellowship program. Nominations can come from a faculty member or from candidates themselves, from any PhD program. Applicants, academic units, and colleges can find the application and instructions online at this link: Lockhart Fellowship To keep this process consistent for all, applicants must submit their completed applications to their departments/colleges by Friday, November 20, 2026. Colleges then submit their best applications to the Graduate School at gradawards@ufl.edu by 5 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2027. Academic units and colleges can choose how to select their best applications — however, Criterion 3 in the instructions ought to weigh as heavily as Criteria 1 and 2 combined.
