CIS4930/6930 - Special Topics: Reinforcement Learning for Humans, Animals and Robots - Spring 2027
CIS4930/6930 - Special Topics: Reinforcement Learning for Humans, Animals and Robots This course will cover reinforcement learning (RL) foundations from biological organisms to autonomous machines. By the end of the course, students will be able to discuss the mechanisms of RL in humans, identify RL concepts at play in human and animal interactions and propose robot learning paradigms inspired by animal training techniques. Students will practice setting up and training RL agents and critiquing the ethical and safety implications of this paradigm. If feasible for classroom scheduling, this will be a 3-period class. pre-requisites: For undergraduates: COP 3530 Data Structures and Algorithms Proficiency in Python. Should be comfortable building and training models in modern Python libraries. Prior exposure to machine learning is recommended. For graduate level students: COT 5615 Mathematics for Intelligent Systems Proficiency in Python. Should be comfortable build...
