 OPS Student Position in Artificial Intelligence and Sensor Development

The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Florida is seeking an OPS

student in machine vision, artificial intelligence (AI), and sensor development areas to develop a detection

module to automatically detect plant wetness for the Strawberry Advisory System

(http://agroclimate.org/tools/sas/dashboard/disease).

Major duties and responsibilities are to:

• Maintain the current wetness detection systems installed in Citra, Balm, Dover, and Plant City, which

are about 2.5 hours away from the main campus

• Replace cameras with new high-resolution ones at these locations

• Assemble a new wetness detection system and install it in Floral City

• Develop new plant wetness detection models using AI and machine learning

• Write regular progress reports and an article for a scientific journal

• A driver’s license is required (or previous extensive experience).

The student is expected to:

• Have an extensive background and experience in AI, ML, deep learning, and image processing,

• Have an experience in hardware sensors/sensing systems development,

• Be able to work at least until May 2025,

• Have excellent communication skills, and

• Be able to work individually and cooperatively as a member of a team.

Salary: $18 per hour, 20 hours per week
